One mission of EpiCentre Skin Care is to continually sample and evaluate new products and new technologies for our patients. Our goal is to separate things that actually work from those that are just marketing "hype." Intense Pulsed Light (IPLTM or FotofacialTM) has now established its effectiveness in removal of brown spots, broken capillaries, and sun damage in the skin.
How does it work? Doesn’t the treatment light cause "sun damage," which I'm trying to avoid? No. As opposed to direct sunlight and tanning beds, the harmful rays are filtered out in the IPLTM (FotofacialTM) treatment. It has no adverse effect of stimulating either sun damaged wrinkling nor skin cancer. What is it useful for? IPLTM is useful in the gradual removal of pigmented age spots and "broken capillaries." In addition to treating facial skin, IPLTM is particularly helpful in clearing aged skin of the neck, upper chest and hands — areas not treatable by laser or chemical peels due to potential scarring.
How is it done? FotofacialTM treatments are performed in EpiCentre as an out-patient procedure. Local anesthetic gel applied to the skin makes the treatments almost painless. All you feel is a slight sting, like the "snapping" of a small rubber band. Once the anesthetic gel takes effect, the treatment takes about 20 minutes. If you would like to see if FotofacialTM treatments would benefit you, call EpiCentre at (214) 887-1577 for a complimentary consultation. |
