Rod J. Rohrich, M.D., F.A.C.S., is an internationally known leader and educator in Plastic Surgery, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, one of only three departments in Plastic Surgery in the United States. He is also Holder of the Crystal Charity Ball Distinguished Chair in Plastic Surgery, the only distinguished chair in Plastic Surgery in the United States. He has a clinical practice at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Baylor University Medical Center.

Dr. Rohrich grew up on a ranch in North Dakota and completed his undergraduate education at North Dakota State University and received his medical degree from Baylor University College of Medicine, graduating from both with highest honors. After general surgery and plastic surgery residencies at The University of Michigan Medical Center, he did further training in pediatric plastic surgery at Oxford University in England. Dr. Rohrich completed a hand and microvascular fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He joined the Division of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern in Dallas in 1986.

He is a member of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASPRS), the Plastic Surgery Research Council, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is Board-Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery Added Qualification for Surgery of the Hand.

He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation and the Board of Governors of the National Endowment for Plastic Surgery.  He is also currently an examiner for the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He has published more than one hundred chapters and books/monographs in plastic surgery, ranging from rhinoplasty to craniofacial trauma. He is included in the 1996-97 edition of The Best Doctors in America, Central America, and Who's Who in America since 1993.

Dr. Rohrich is past member of the Board of Directors of ASPRS, the largest organization of Board-certified plastic surgeons in the world. He has been active in organized medicine for more than a decade, having served as a founding member of the Texas Medical Association Young Physicians Section and past chairman of the American Medical Association Resident Physicians Section, an organization with more than 30,000 members.

He has chaired numerous national plastic surgery committees, educational symposia, and is past chairman of the Scientific Program Committee of the ASPRS. He has served as a Visiting Professor for the two national educational organizations in both aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.

He has been a Visiting Professor to numerous national and international societies around the world. In Dallas, Dr. Rohrich is a civic leader, having served on the Board of Directors of the March of Dimes, Dallas Chapter of the American Cancer Society, Advisory Board member of the Evergreen Gala which directly benefits the community cancer efforts of the ACS, and the Save the Children Foundation. He was responsible for organizing an East Dallas Mobile Health Unit to assist in the immunization of homeless and underprivileged children. He also performs and teaches plastic surgery in Third World countries, reconstructing congenitally deformed children.

Dr. Rohrich has been the recipient of numerous prestigious national research and teaching awards during his academic career in plastic surgery. He is on the editorial board of numerous peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the leading journal for plastic surgeons in the world, and Selected Readings in Plastic Surgery which is a supplement to the teaching curriculum of plastic surgery training programs in the United States and thirty-eight foreign countries. Dr. Rohrich's interests span the entire spectrum of plastic surgery from craniomaxillofacial surgery to aesthetic surgery (rhinoplasty, breast surgery, and body contouring).
